Thank you to our presenters, sponsors, and conference attendees!
A great learning and networking opportunity was had by all who attended the MAEDC Best Practices Conference in Milwaukee! We were pleased to partner with the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) to offer a pre-conference seminar on TIF. Topics included guiding principles, understanding your state’s TIF statute, TIF bond issuance and structure, a TIF case study, and building community partnerships to support the utilization of this economic development tool. This was followed the next morning with the official start of the day and one-half conference.

Topics included the following:
- Case study of the Menomonee Valley Partners, Inc. – Take Away: Sustainable urban redevelopment to maximize economic development gains
- Evaluation of a large regional economic development model based around the City of Milwaukee - Take Away: Realigning resources through regional collaboration
- Panel discussion on a return to buy local campaigns – Take Away: Tools to leverage the purchase of home grown food by local food buyers to keep money recirculating in local economies
- Luncheon keynote by James Russell, President of Pizzuti Solutions LLC – Take Away: Examination of changes in the real estate climate

2010 Best Practices Conference Testimonial
I want to say how very glad I am to have invested the last couple of days with MAEDC. The iPod is great (such a cool gift) and I shall enjoy it tremendously of course. The greater value though, for me, is in learning from experienced practitioners and recognizing the strong shared values that obviously exist between MAEDC members and within our own communities. It's pretty inspiring really.
The conference agenda was a large part of my decision to attend and I learned something significant from each of the speakers. I particularly enjoyed Jim Russell's talk on Thursday, Mark Lange's presentation on Economic Gardening, and the MWSRA vision of High Speed Rail Friday, and freely admit the financially focused topics were the most instructive. It also was very refreshing to see metro Milwaukee and the M7 region through the eyes of others as it was presented by Laura, Pat, Robert & Peter.
Thank you again for your professionalism and dedication and please extend my appreciation to the planning committee - very nicely done!
Sincerely,
